Family Day: Beyond the Bassline

British Library, London.

Family Day: Beyond the Bassline

Free | Ticketed | Suitable for age 2-11 years

Join us to explore and celebrate Black British music, inspired by our current exhibition Beyond the Bassline: 500 Years of Black British Music.

Discover the amazing people, spaces, movements and sounds that have shaped music in the UK, at our exciting Family Day.

Get ready to sing along with the Reggae Choir, go time-travelling with Helen McDonald’s Jazz Queens and experience the musical talents of jazz pianist Emily Tran, one of Tomorrow’s Warriors Emerging Artists. Find your singing voice in workshops with Aga Serugo-Lugo, or get moving with HomeFam’s hip-hop workshops. Then join Hannah Lee and Allen Fatimaharan to rap, draw and play with their inspirational picture book, The Rapping Princess.

Under 5’s will be able to have fun with sound, colour and texture in a special play environment designed by Jamel Carly Campbell. While budding artists, designers, inventors and musicians of all ages can build sound systems, design record covers, create tactile records, model carnival masks and explore sound with artists Helen Rousseau, Meera Chauda, Ella Philips and Lin Kam Arts.

Not forgetting our sensory room and pop-up book area with tactile and braille editions.
